Let’s Look!

Mix and Match Mama and A Little Bit of Everything Blog said we’re taking a look at our hometowns and I could not be more excited about it!!

There’s so much to share. SO MUCH.

I was born and raised in a small town in Southwest Louisiana. DeQuincy! Once a bustling Railroad town, DeQuincy still has a big heart and great community. We just need a face lift:) We were hit hard with two back to back hurricanes on the heels of the pandemic. The way our entire community came out to help each other was something I’ll never forget!

Following the hurricanes, we lost a lot of history. Brick buildings that stood in the early 1900s were being torn down.

There’s only a few that still stand in our downtown area, but sadly, most are unoccupied.

SOOOO HERE WE ARE! We bought one of them!

We have big dreams, hopes and plans. Our ultimate goal is to revitalize downtown by hosting local small businesses through the use of a commissary (shared) kitchen.

Along with my husband Philip and two girls, we are Legacy Made. Everything he is is a result of his family. Everything I am is a result of mine. Our families’ legacies have driven us to grow our own. We are made up of their values, work ethic, and drive and we are so blessed by that.

This building was a wreck. It had been rained in since the hurricanes in 2020. We started the inside demo two weeks ago and next step is re-roofing!

I cant wait to stand inside a cleaned out building with a tape measure and our contractor and plan this thing out!!

Here’s our plan! If you’ve read my past posts, you know that I love organizing our town’s farmers market. The relationships I’ve made with our vendors has shown me the need for a place to regularly show their talents. We’d love for this to be an opportunity to grow local business and, in turn, create a fun place for the community to gather daily! A Culinary Incubator. Your first stop to your dream shop. We want to host you, provide a space to create and sell your creation and help you market your business as well.

The girls are in love with this little gazebo in our beautiful “pocket park” :)

We are in the gutting stage and need to get a new roof on, but as we have discovered more about this 75 year old building, our plans have grown and changed in the best ways and we can’t WAIT to share more of our plans for the rest of this space!

So tell me, do you have a place like this in your area? What’s it like? Also, if you’re Ree Drummond, Joanna Gaines or Erin Napier… give me a call;) ha! AND Mix & Match Mama, if you’re reading this, I had the best conversation with the man that runs the Copper Kitchen in McKinney because you’ve made me fall in love with your town from afar and if I can make DeQuincy anything like it, I’d be so happy!!

We’re hopeful and excited. If you’re in the area and you’re dreaming up a way to expand your culinary venture soon, send us a message:)

Thanks for coming,

Kelly
